windsurf holiday advice

Started by Started by: CarolI

Trying to get back into windsurfing by booking a week over May half term, somewhere where Steve and the boys can have fun on a beach while I windsurf.
Thinking of Sotovento.... Anyone have any other better recommendations or thoughts on Fuerte as a family/windsurf destination as I have never been?
It can't be too far away as it's only 1 week........

Many thanks

Hi Carol
We're off to Lanzarote May half term.Staying at the Lanzarote Gardens Hotel at Costa Teguise, 5 min walk from the beach. We went last year and it worked perfectly (other than a lack of wind) thoroughly recommended for kids.

Sotavento is good for windsurfing certainly but the beach is quite baron and can get windswept, other beaches are around for the family though if at another hotel other than goriones (or there is the pool), other options may half term would be maybe greece/turkey as more family orientated although may be early for strong winds. dahab would be a good option and winds more reliable.

Hi Carol
Greece / Turkey is perhaps a bit early for strong winds, but as Windyrich suggests may offer a bit more family entertainment. wisuki.com/statistics/1744/vassiliki shows some wind stats for Vassiliki, which is lovely and offers beaches, biking and a pretty village nearby. Neilson and Club Vass have nice windsurfing / watersports centres there. Alacatti in Turkey is similar - a lovely old fishing village, a nice beach and the benefit of a large shallow area for learners. www.windfinder.com/windstats/windstatistic_alacati The water is quite cold in Alacatti as there is a fresh water spring, so an autumn wetsuit is recommended! Club Mistral run the windsurfing centre.
Egypt will certainly be more reliable for winds. Have a great holiday. I am very jealous!
