This was a classic OMWC weekend, an event honed over nearly 25 years of practice. The helpful lady at Calshot Activity Centre said she couldn't book the weather, but somebody did! Families and friends, kids and canoes, water balloons. a bit of wind and absolutely no waves - we all had a lovely time. And there's not a lot more to say than that, other than it was great to see all those faces you hadn't seen for a while - a pity that Juan & Gen & the boys couldn't make it, preparing for their big trip.

Thanks to all for coming, you made it what it was. Here's to next year!

The windsurfing action does not get a "Poor" rating only because sailing without a wetsuit is always a treat. I tried the Naish beginner's board, but didn't get anywhere fast. Could be the word "beginners" in the board's description, lack of wind, a proper fin, or the fact that I forgot to pop the 2 cams in (haven't used a sail with cams for 2 years so a mistake anyone could make!).

Apart from the sweltering heat and the local colony of sea birds that decided to start their daily singing practice at 4:30 am, we had a great time. The kids had a blast playing with their old and new friends, mud baths, water balloon fights (thank you Jonathan!), canoeing, windsurfing, etc. etc.

The action carried on until the very end, when Eva got thrown in the lagoon by Iona (allegedly), 15 minutes before our scheduled departure.

Tempted by someone planing out on the front I decided to rig up late Saturday afternoon. Went with my 8.0 - which was just enough to get me tantalisingly close to planing but only succeeded in actually getting in the foot straps in the occasional gust! Still it was a glorious afternoon and it was delightful to be wearing my lightest wetsuit and venturing out towards the Queen Mary 2, Independence of the Seas etc as the all embarked off on their travels. Great to see so many members turn up and all the kids enjoying themselves.

Calshot Megabash has always been good fun, wind or no wind.
This year was just wonderful, some of us managed a late sail although light wind(both days).
But, for me the best part was messing about in the water, as the children made this week-end something special. Great to see old faces again, I guess I'm one of them, and to meet new friends. I would love more week-ends like this.

Thanks to all those that organised this event.

Not a lot of wind but more than Saturday and just enough to get me planing.

A glorious sunny weekend though. Loads of us there, enjoying the sun and the beach, great to see all the chlidren enjoying themselves. Calshot worked really well again, the camping was excellent, saturday night all went well, same again next year please.

Coming towards the end of the weekend, not much wind, yesterday it kicked in (if the top end of F3 is a kick!) about 1 pm, been sitting reading and eating apart from a trip in Pete D's canoe (thanks Pete!), getting hot and a bit *rsy because of the inaction and well, the heat...

So. like the vulture losing patience ("To heck with this waiting, let's go kill something!";), I rigged 5.5m and 116l, since people were frustrated by not planing yesterday I figured I'd avoid the problem altogether! Nice to be sailing in a rash vest and shorts, probably the first time ever in the UK, amazingly.

Incredibly, the wind freshened, and after a couple of pootling runs, on the way back the board lifted on top of the bow wave (love that feeling!! Seeing it happen in slow motion is so cool) and there we were - planing!! Got in a few more before it dropped and I chilled off having fallen in on a couple of tacks. The Big Boys came out too, with Andrew on a 6.5/120 looking good, and making the most of the sun and (slight) wind.

Quite the good end to a great weekend!

Same conditions as on Saturday. Hopped in the bay full of modest anticipation and got rewarded with a great 10 minutes of planing on nice smooth water (popped the cams in this time!). Went downhill from there.

Gets an average first because of the short burst of excitement and second because I sailed in my shorts and a t-shirt.

A great weekend - good weather and good fun. Thanks to those who organised it and everyone who came along. I imagine most of the kids slept well last night despite the heat...
