Having seen the no wind forecast for the weekend in this area and with the company of rain showers my thoughts were this could be a hard one to host, but there's always something to do. Upon reaching the beach on a bright and sunny Saturday morning and seeing two red familiar looking vw vans in the car park, then two speedsails going up and down the beach I started to wonder if I was having an aberration! As one of the vans and speedsails belonged to Alan Cornish. When I got closer I found it to be his son Paul keeping Alan's possessions alive. Together with his brother Mark, this made a total of five speedsails!!! Along with Chris L, Chris M and myself the most we have had for a while and it started to feel like old times on the beach. The weekend was spent dodging the showers and flying up and down the beach on speedsails, practicing sailing back to wind, speed jybing, duck jybing and 360's. When the showers came we retreated to the vans for a social catch up and a cuppa.

As the evening approached the traditional fire was lit at the campsite followed by exploring the pubs in Appledore.
John G joined us on Sunday and arrived in good time 1 1/2 hours before high tide, best time for a surf. Within minutes he had his wetsuit on and catching the small but fun waves.
Chris M and George decided to visit the scenic village of Clovelly, which you have to pay to get in now and cunningly devised a plan to avoid that, [or was that the plan in the first place].
We also located the coolest dude in North Devon, Andrew Cotton. Andrew was filmed and put on national TV news surfing one giant 80 feet wave off the coast of Portugal. He is a life guard a couple of beaches away, and this is where he trains!!!

Thanks to everyone who came down and made it a fun weekend.

Diary for Nigel at North Devon on 28/05/15

Nigel & Buddy at Westward Ho!
Our dedicated hosts for the weekend.
Rating:2 star rating
Board:0 litres

Friday started off with a phone call from Chris m, who had broken down on the way to Devon and needed recovery service to take him home.
The high pressure weather forecast we had for the weekend did not do us any favors ,no wind and little surf, it was even proving hard to get the speed sails going until later on when the breeze kicked in and Mark c and myself had a great session blasting up and down the beach along with doing all our usual tricks 360's, duck jibes etc.
While waiting for the conditions to improve Mark tried his hand at bass fishing, Westward Ho being one of the top places in the country for it.(no bites though).
Thanks to everyone who came down.
