Map of RSPB protected areas in Langstone Harbour
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has published some information on the protected areas for breeding birds in Langstone Harbour, shown on the map extract.

I've had the following clarification from the RSPB:

"The area at the West Hayling site to avoid is directly around the lagoon islands, not somewhere that windsurfers would usually want to be. We include it on the map for kayakers.

With regards to windsurfers in the harbour, it?s a pleasure to see you out there. The simplest and most appreciated thing any of you could do would just be to turn before getting really close in to the islands (as virtually all of you do). Although a small minority, there are some that either turn at the last minute, within a few metres of the island or even land there before setting back off. The upshot of this when it happens is that the adults birds panic and flee, causing chicks to run into other territories, come under attack by the returning territorial adults and raise mortality."

I haven't seen anyone from the club going anywhere near the islands, let alone landing on them, but please don't during May-July!
