Sailing at Lee on Solent and Hill Head

Started by Started by: mfarrie
Hello all, I'm a new Ocean Motion member and plan to be sailing down at Hill Head, Lee On Solent. I live in Walton on Thames but I have family moving to Hill Head so will be there a lot in the future. Is this a location that OMWC sailors use? would be good to get to know people there.
Best regards, Mike

Hi Mike, check the events first of all, under Forthcoming in the menu on the left hand side. We do sail there occasionally, but why limit yourself to Hill Head?? Hayling's as close to W-o-Thames, if your family haven't moved yet, and there are other S Coast venues we also sail at. And then there are places like Bramblebush, near Poole - magical! Best to call the host of an event to let them know you're coming, or put a comment against the event on the website, then we'll be able to meet up.

Hi Mike, I tend to split my sailing between Hayling and Hillhead. Generally Hayling at low to mid tide, Hillhead when it is high tide.
Hillhead is one of the few places on the S Coast you don't have to pay to park and generally plenty of space in the car park unless it is a real scorcher of a day. You do have to mix it up with the kitesurfers but generally this seems to work with less of the "them and us" of Hayling. Generally quite choppy but good ramps as the tide fills over the spit (watch the fin though) and you can generally find a flatter freestyle area right in the corner, but again you have to know the depth of your fin!
