Vulcan attempt # 1

Left it too late to get to Bramblebush and with it being high tide I headed to Hillhead. Perfect timing! The wind had picked up just as I got there and all the folks on 5.7 and 5.3 were coming in to change down. I suspect the Hillhead sea breeze was adding to the 20knots along the rest of the coast. So I took my 4.7m and tri fin.
The first hour was certainly fast and furious - very well powered up with a few big lumps to jump off. Really impressed with the versatility of my new(ish) board. Great in the hectic conditions but also on occasion I joined Chris Audsley in the 'freestyle' area where it was much flatter.
An hour in, the wind dropped so it became a bit more marginal on the 4.7m, although I was generally still planing and from time to time it really picked up for a spell. So 4.7m was definitely the best choice.
Very pleasant afternoon, and good to put my board through its paces.

Absolutely fantastic time at Bramblebush Bay. 5.5 was perfect at the start and end of the day, a bit overpowered mid afternoon, but it's Poole harbour - so just keep going. Great to be sailing with all the crowd.

Another super summer saturday sunday at Barmblebush bay. Excellent siling on Saturday, bbq and camping at Acton fields, then a really nice walk across the Purbecks on Sunday.

Freeride board, large sail, summer wetsuit: totally the wrong kit for the weather! Nevertheless, I did manage to hang in there for almost 3 hours and would have carried on if Eva didn't alert me via our new Walkie Talkie system that she needed me to come in. The afternoon sail was much more pleasant than the morning as the sun came out and both air and water felt warmer. I enjoyed the flat-water end on either side of the ride across the bay and tried to deal with the choppy middle bit as much as I could.

Sunday was as calm as it could get. Even the kids could not windsurf as the current was stronger than the non-existent wind. We did some paddle boarding using our new inflatable kit in the afternoon which was great fun. I didn't veer too far from the beach as I need to read a bit more about currents before I step in the water on top of what is nothing more than a blown up balloon.

Being a single camping parent prevented me from socialising too much, but it was great to see everyone, albeit briefly.

(Lucas was very impressed with the beachaddict's vulcan attempts)

What a weekend, windy all day on Saturday and great to enjoy it with a big group of friends. The camp site/barbie was good as ever, just wish we could have stayed for Sunday.

Wow... another great B'bush weekend! Arrived to find people talking of rigging 6.5m sails - bonkers. Rigged 5.5m, was nearly overpowered sometimes, but excellent sail in the sun. Also lent additional 5.5m sails to other members, enabling their weekend to be as good as mine! Great to see people, including rare birds like Justin and Carol - happy birthday Carol! And I got to see the rings of Saturn - magic. Thanks Lawrence, almost tempted to get a 'scope myself...

Can't wait for the next one.

Yet another Brilliant Bramblebush session on Saturday.
My vintage kit, Flow (nearly 15 years old) & North 5.0 IDRA sail (20 years old) still managed to do the business, even if I (50+ years) couldn't do the conditions enough justice. Chris M, you should have been there to se me use that sail again !
Shame I could only manage to be out there for a couple of hours.
It was sunny & windy & as beautiful as ever & the 2nd time out in 2 weeks ! (At this rate I will easily beat last year's record).
Must get out more.
Great camping & BBQ on Saturday evening too.

Huge thanks to John for making this such an excellent day. Turned up with only a 6.5m and 99l due to low wind forecast, only to find that I needed to at least double my body weight to hold on to that! Hugely grateful to John for lending me his sail, and to Stephen for rigging them all for me, on what was a glorious windy sunny Saturday!
It was really lovely to catch up with a few people too, and I hope we'll be down again before too long - the boys are already making a play for more trips to see the other children....
