Hi all, unfortunately I have some sad news to break.

Gabi wanted us to let everyone on OM know that Pete is seriously ill with cancer. Presently he is receiving palliative care at Countess Mountbatten Hospice, Southampton.

Having visited him today (Saturday 7th Nov), if you would like to visit him, I would recommend doing so as soon as possible, Gabi is encouraging visitors.

Feel free to text Nuala, if you have any questions, 07887 481213.

Lawrence.

What tragic news. My heart goes out to Pete and Gabi and his family. As an OMWC member from way back I have spent many happy hours on the beach shooting the breeze ( that illusive breeze that all windsurfers search for ) with Pete. A true gentleman in all senses of the word. May the wind be for ever in your sails Pete. Lawrence, can you please pass on my post to Gabi. My thoughts are with her and Pete. Many thanks. Steve

Really very shocked to read this email. My thoughts go out to Pete, Gabi and their family. For someone so full of life this is really upsetting news. I think Steve D sums it up well, a true gent in every sense of the word.

Nuala and I will be going back to the hospice later this afternoon to cover the 5-10pm slot today, Pete's in a private room, but they need friends and family to be with him 24/7.

We will pass on both of your thoughts to Gabi.

Hi Lawrence, many thanks for your email and post about Pete. I have to say I am in a state of total shock and disbelief. It might be 12 months since I left the UK but I cant imagine a summer on the south coast without Pete turning up at Calshot or Bramblebush - always happy and smiling. If anyone gets the chance please let him know my thoughts are with him and in particular with Gabi and family. What a cruel world it is! Mike

A quick update - Pete is currently in a relaxed and calm state, with a high level of sedation. Gabi has been very comforted with all the visits and texts (which I have read out to her). I will forward them all on at some point, and I'm sure she will reply in the future. I will be visiting them tomorrow eve. Nuala xx

Just a shocking reminder of how temporary and cruel life can be. Someone so full of life - to have it taken away so quickly. He was a real pleasure to share a pint with, a real gentleman. In fact I'm pretty sure it was Pete who bought me a pint at my first ever weekend away with OMWC in some dodgy pub in Southampton that Chris M had dragged us to! He will be sorely missed. Much love to Gabi, Millie and all his family. Our thoughts are with you.

Hi, Petes funeral is on Monday 23rd November, 2 pm in Southampton Crematorium. Further details to follow. Nuala xx
Hi, funeral is at the East Chapel, Southampton crematorian 2pm, and refreshments after at Pear Tree Church Hall - listening to Peters saxophone music. Dress code is no black clothing. Gabi is aiming for a happy and uplifting service and gathering.
Lawrence and I will be there. Gabi has asked if anyone else is planning on coming from Omwc.

Donations, if desired, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care and the Countess Mountbatten Hospice can be made through Jonathon Terry Funeral Directors.
It was a very moving, funeral service, which so many people attended - they ran out of seats.

Juan and I are very sad to hear that Pete had such a short innings. But he certainly made up for it with exuberance. Juan fondly recalls sailing at full stretch, neck and neck with Pete at various times over many years with the club. And as Roger says, also at the pub afterwards, with the day's sailing glory recounted over froth very much in the fashion of the big fish that got away. Our sympathies go to Gaby and the family. We too will sorely miss Pete's good company.
