Helen and I arrived at Calshot mid-morning on Saturday, to find that Adrian had been blasting away since before sunrise, and was just changing down from a 9m to a 6.7m. So we took his lead and rigged accordingly, and despite the valiant attempts of the weather forecasters to subdue the wind, it kept on coming all afternoon. By 4pm the tide was too far out and we packed up, rather than enduring a long walk back to the beach.

We had bought 20 doughnuts from Waitrose, which went down well with Jonathan, Marian and Carl, Steve and Lou (two non-members that came along), Chris Martin, Adam, Gary and Carolyn (plus their boys). The Pimms and ice were quite yummy too.

The Forest Home and the delightful landlady, Lorraine, were our evening hosts, and then we all retired to the car park for slumber....all in all a perfect day at the seaside.

Sunday morning gave us a constant Force 3, but the windsurfers that went out never got on the plane, so Helen and I disappeared at lunchtime.

The highlight of the weekend though, was easily the stunning revelation that Chris has had a previous life as a jam doughnut manufacturing technician, and was able to advise us in precise detail why some of our doughnuts had a jam deficiency.

Board:101 litres

Decent wind and sunshine for most of the time with wind against tide later in the day. A bit bouncy in the chop at high tide although this flattened out as the tide receded.

The Pimms & Doughnut party was a great idea. Special thanks to Bernie & Helen for finding the perfect way to round off a good days sailing!

Vulcan attempt # 1
My first proper vulcan attempt...
Rating:4 star rating
Board:112 litres

Nice varied conditions - horribly bumpy on the outside (especially on a big board) but absolutely flat on the inside - becoming more so as the tide went out. Of course if you wanted flat all the way then there was always the lagoon for most of the day.

Pimms and doughnuts was a novel combination - but worked very well!!

Having looked at the Windguru forecast which predicted wind early Saturday and early Sunday I decided to work on Saturday and join everyone in the pub for dinner on Saturday night. That bit worked well - but unfortunately Windguru had it wrong and there was no wind on Sunday morning!! Moto is dont trust windguru!!
