What a brilliant day. A sea breeze came from nowhere and we all had an excellent afternoon sailing. Started on 8.0 but after a while this was getting a handful, changed down to 6.6 and had the best sail this year. Good to see so many members at the beach.

An unexpected sea breeze rounded off an enjoyable afternoon on the beach. I had bought a new Skate 99 earlier in the day but didn't expect it to get wet over the weekend. However the good-old Hillhead sea breeze kicked in and kept me consistently planing - I think the lightness of my new board made up for the 13 litre drop in volume over my old Skate.
It was Nayra's first OMWC event - and she seemed to enjoy it too!
This was the first time we had made it to a club event for some time - so it was good to see so many faces (relative to what had been a pretty lacklustre forecast).

After a good deal of lazing about in the sun, a surprise sea breeze kicked in which gave us about 4 hours of planing conditions until around 7pm, by which time most of us were too tired to carry on and went for a pint and some food at the pub. Good to see so many familiar faces particularly as the weather forecast beforehand had been a bit dodgy.

With the very iffy forecast, we decided to nip down to Hillhead just to attend the event for social side.
The plan was to laze on the beach then go to the pub.
However, true to me never really believing forecasts, the sea breeze appeared from nowhere to give some really nice conditions.
Although I am even more unfit/out of practice than the last time I got out, I did manage a few powered-up runs in the glorious sunshine with a warm sea.
What a bonus, (& the pub was good too).
It was nice to meet up with some familiar faces, must get to events more often !
Thanks, Nick for hosting this very enjoyable event

A lovely sunny day, not much wind forcast though so was not expecting to meet so many old friends. Keen-ness is still upon me so I rigged up and went sailing with a 6.3 and had fun messing about for a while. The wind was stronger than it looked from the beach, so people were planing on big sails before long. Once the wind picked up enough for my Dad to get planing with his 7.5, I found myself acting as a "gybe mark". Enough of that, into the beach and rigged a 7.0m, probably not big enough but it will have to do. Took a while, lots of pumping, a couple of closely spaced gusts and a little help from a few inches of swell, but I did get planing a few times, and once, actually managed a planing gybe...whoppie. Just about got hooked in and back foot in the straps before coming off the plane, so Im ticking the box for another skill re-learnt, as I reckon they will come good when the wind blows a bit harder.
Couldnt help but notice how much Carls sailing has improved during my gap years, nice 360s, duck gybes and helis.....well done.

i did not expect much of a turn out for thisone, due to the poor forcast. So was verey pleasantly surprised with a good turn out of old hands and a few not so old hands (Nayra and Ella).
The majority of the day was spent watching mark practice his frrestyle and the locals with 10m plus rigs planing. Still when the sea breeze kicked in I was allowed out to play and had a really good sail and that I had not forgotten too much.
Spent the evening in the Crofton pub which was a bit of a gamble as I had never been there before. Still I expect to return in the future so must have been OK.
