Lawrence has reported on Saturday, so this is mostly for Sunday.

Thanks to everyone who came down over the weekend, and also to our bbq. Its great to chat to so many people.

People down at the beach over the weekend: Myself, Lawrence, (Xavier, Finian), Duncan, Adrian + son, Ricardo, Mike, Nick, Sarah (Ella), Jonathon, Jayne, (Nayra), Justin, Shireen, Colin, John G, Julie, Eric, Eva, Gary, Gavin- think thats everyone- sorry if Ive left you off. As you can see- a large turnout. (people in brackets arent sailing (yet) mostly due to being under 5).

Weather on Sunday: rain intially then dry most of midday with rain at the end of the afternoon. Cloud present most of day- at one point you couldnt see the Isle of Wight. Wind was pretty blowy most of the day- some lulls, but generally 6-7.5m weather (not as windy as Saturday).
Sea state- wet n salty, low then high tide, very lumpy (actually felt a little sea-sick!!!- probably due to sailing too close to dinner time!!).

Broken kit report: Lawrences mast- luckily whilst the rig was just sunbathing on the beach, Nicks uj- unluckily whilst he was out at sea

The following are in my opinion (and may not be in anyone elses!!)...
Most impressive sight: Gary practising beach starts and cracking them in pretty high waves.
Funniest moment: watching all the lasers capsize when the wind suddenly kicked in on Saturday.
Most annoying moment: experienced by Lawrence: waiting for the wind on Saturday with a 9+m sail rigged, quickly rigged up his 6.5 due to wind being too strong when it did kick in- about to go into water- when he heard 'I need a poo Daddy'!!!
Most frustrating time sailing: Nick- uj broke on Saturday, rig always 'just too small' on Sunday as wind dropped.
Furthest point from beach reached: Mike - ending up near the hovercrafts when not windy enough to waterstart and board to small to uphaul on- wondered where he had gone!!
Most helpful to me: (apart from Lawrence for rigging for me or lending me his kit)- Shireen for pushing/rocking Finian in his buggy for 2 hours- keeping him asleep
Most appreciated: John and Justin for making me cups of tea
Think that about covers it- overall- a great weekend and fantastic to get out sailing both days.

Whoops- think I have lost Lawrences report on Saturday when I submitted this. Saturday was quiet on the wind front in the morning- Adrian and son sailing with big kit whist everyone else watched. About 3:30pm saw a big black cloud approach and with it came lots of wind suddenly. Everyone ran to get into the water- mostly on 6.5m sails. - and some were still out sailing when I left for home at 6:30pm.
Great bbq in eve- tons of food and watching Lawrences video of sailing at Lepe from a couple of weeks ago.

Vulcan attempt # 1
My first proper vulcan attempt...

Rigged my 6.6m when what appeared to be a squall came through - thought I'd be nicely powered when it passed, however 2 hours later the "squall" was still going strong. It was only when I changed down to a 5m and was still well powered that I realised how stacked I had been on the 6.6!

Once we were totally knackered, it was on to Lawrence and Nuala's for a BBQ and big-screen windsurfing action (and I do mean BIG screen). It was great watching the footage from Lepe a couple of weeks ago - it was even still entertaining after the 4th viewing!

Big thanks to the hosts - a great way to end the day - they even provided Nayra with a cot!

Didn't manage to get down today, a bit wet up in Basingstoke and Nayra wanted to go shopping!

Pretty overpowered for the short period I was on the water- but great to sail on Lawrences new board (I love it). Very lumpy but great to be on water. Mostly 'survival' sailing!!

Matt (son) and I gopt there early only to see the wind slowly drop as we rigged. Hung in there to eventually see the wind increase enough to get planing with a little help of brute force pumping. Early afternoon decided to call it a day and wonder back home to finish wifes list of jobs.....
This is probrably why the wind came up, just to P*ss me off.

Sunday lookefd to wet for my liking.
Off to Bigbury this Thursday for a long weekend.

When the alarm went off in London at 6am on Saturday I had the feeling I was perhaps timing my departure for Hillhead a bit too early. When I arrived to Andy Biggs at 8:30 to get my new harness lines half an hour before opening I though that was clear evidence. But I didn't want to miss out on any wind action.
Anyway, we know how it went. Long wait for the wind. Even the excitement at some point in the morning of seeing Adrian rig up to go out didn't last very long as I realized he was putting on a 9 metres!!

The day was very enjoyable nonetheless - under Duncan supervision I even managed to do a few duck jibes...on the beach off course.

And when the wind came, it was really good. Went out with a 6.5 and lasted perhaps 30 min before coming back to rig down to my 5.4 Just perfect for the wind. Only problem was my board, which at 113 ltrs is really too big for these conditions.

Had to go back to London for the evening and missed the BBQ and videos, but would like to thank the hosts for their kind invitation.

I was back on Sunday morning and thought I would try the flat waters of Calshot lagoon where Duncan was sailing also. I ended up sailing on the Calshot wavy side anyway, as that was too tempting. Wind was weaker than Saturday at Hillhead but it was good enough for my 6.5 and had a few good runs, mostly up wind close to Lepe where the wind seemed a bit stronger.

Off to Cabarete for two weeks, hope to see you all back on the weekend Aug 23rd

What a great sail, the waves were justright and providing plenty of opportunities for practicing cut backs. Then the tables turned and my UJ split just of off Lee. So a long swim in followed by a long walk.

All in all a day of 2 halves, shame they were the 2 halve of my UJ.

Great to see over 20 members out over the weekend enjoying(?) the Solent conditions. I put in my usual late Tate appearance 4.00pm on Saturday (carefully planned) to catch the best of the wind for the day. Had a great sail. Couldn't believe that forward loops could be "10 a penny" to such an extent - not me or any other OMWC members I hasten to add but the locals were certainly taking full advantge of the waves. Crawled back to N&L's for some great hospitality, a super BBQ and big screen (as in real life full size) entertainment in the form of a replay of the Lepe event two weeks ago!
Sunday was not quite as good - went out on my Free Diamond 70 with a 7.4 sail which varied from being over to underpowered. Still it was good to see new members Gavin and Gary - you'll soon have that beach start cracked Gary and then we can get you onto waterstarts!! Riccardo and Justin are becoming regulars and it was super to see Julie back on the water with a shiny new quiver!! Eric put in a second appearance for the season - with Eva this time and Colin A managed to find time to fit us in! Great to see you all not to mention all the regulars and many thanks once again to Nuala and Laurence for their brilliant hospitality. Well done!

slightly more in control than yesterday- although found the size of the waves caused me to feel sea sick! Still didnt get round a carve gybe- but at least I attempted to. Great sailing when in footstraps- kept falling in between waterstarts and getting into straps.

AHHHHHH. As fast as I could rig and get a run in on the kit the wind dropped. Consequently spent the entire time rerigging and blobbing around.
