Breaking news for Andrew

Date Date: 26/08/08
The word of mouth has that the shorebreak at Christshurch is killer - and this time it has taken down our humble star Andrew. He is now in hospital with a broken leg after a serious rumble with the beach and shoredump in a now much-regretted mid-week jaunt that would normally leave the worker-bees buzzing with jealousy. The nurses tell him he will more than likely have to take a year off. And he will set off all the metal detectors with a nice shiny pin. We are really sorry to hear the bad news Andrew and we hope you recuperate in luxury. What a bummer..., and just when you were angling to overtake Carl in the races. Looking on the bright side for any possible plus points to bring your smile back, you are now that much closer to lots of nice nurses :) We all send our good wishes!

Uh oh. Sounds pretty bloomin' gruesome. Really sorry to hear the news; just hope the recuperation works out OK and you are back on the water ASAP just to prove those doctors wrong...

Keen to know more / what happened when you can be bothered. Yikes !

ATB,
Mike.

Thanks everyone for your comments and best wishes

How did it happen ? Basically I got caught in the shorebreak. I was getting ready to launch, saw a large wave coming and decided to back-track. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough so the wave knocked me and kit to the ground, pushing the mast into my leg/knee.

The official description is a comminuted fracture of the tibial plateau, ouch.

I think the recovery will be long and slow, but at least I am out of hospital now.

Very sorry to hear about your misfortune Andrew, and wish you a speedy recovery. Was intending to have a chat with you about php bulletin boards down in Devon, perhaps you could get in touch somewhen. Would be happy to help out as a junior moderator if you think its viable.
