Off the west coast of Africa, this ex-Portuguese archipelago is best known for Sal, the island most frequented by windsurfers.

Overall, Cabo Verde is a versatile spot for keen sailors. Although reluctant to let everyone in on what I think is a great place, because you don't want the character to change if it is over-run, I have to be honest. Angulo centre is cool with good quality gear and great location, with the added bonus on being keen to let you take your hiregear in a cab to wherever the sailing is best! The Santa Maria bay is easy, beautiful white sandy beach and has excellent challenges as well. The island of Sal as a whole, I never got to explore fully but the bits I saw and the others I saw from a distance all had the makings of great sailing adventures. And if you want somewhere to escape the madworld of civilised society, or the fact you are getting older, then this is definitely the place - it is a dreamworld still. On a lone desert highway...
