Christchurch

Christchurch is a spectacular location on the Dorset coast, protected by the mile long Hengistbury Head the natural harbour offers relatively flat-water, excellent for learning or for days when the wind is off-shore at the beach. Alternatively, Avon Beach and Steamer Point offer great open sea sailing within Christchurch Bay

Event report Event report Event report for October 3, 4 Christchurch
Helen and I are hosting this event and have now concluded our negotiations with a Third Party for the provision of a Force 5 wind. I am pleased to announce that our negotations have been largely successful and after a long period of zilch wind over the last few weeks, the forecast for Saturday is.....yep, a Force 5, but with partial cloud and a max temperature of 17 degrees. High Tide is around 10am and it's a double high.

I have booked the Globe at Highcliffe for 12 people for 7pm Saturday night, but if we get more along during the daytime I'll give them another ring.

I'll be either at Mudeford or Avon Beach, not sure yet, but I have a white CI Carioca motorhome and my mobile is 07717 424222.

By the way, just in case you are interested, the Third Party wouldn't give me his full title and company name, but said I could mention to you his nickname..... could have sworn he said The Almighty.... could be wrong cos I was distracted by what appeared to be a Halo above his head and a rather sexy looking Angel on his lap......

See you Sat

Bernie (and Helen)

I'll be down Avon Beach on Saturday with a new fin and wetsuit to try out :)

WE should be there - never having sailed Christchurch before - when are the waves the best? High tide, low tide, what wind direction? What spot is the best for waves? Avon or Steamers? I have a feeling it will be a bit more than Force 5.

By the way - good result on dealing with the Almighty! Maybe you should speak to the UKWA and they will use your connections for future competitions.

I'm sure the local surf bum will respond on the best conditions at some point but he's probably still in bed at the moment so here goes. Best waves are between mid tide and high tide (on the push) - thats mid morning to lunchtime tomorrow. However I doubt we'll get much more than a bit of wind blown chop on the sand bar ie. I don't think the outer sand bar will be working tomorrow, not enough swell around. However the wind direction is looking good for cross off conditions. Best location by a long way is Avon - no waves at Steamer

Hi Beth, Rogerta knows a lot more about the waves at Avon Beach than me. I will be on the Harbour side because I will have my children with me.....hope to see you tomorrow.

The other option to the morning session is wait for the late afternoon tide 5-7pm which is what I may end up doing given its already 9.30am!!
