Part of the Jurassic Coast, known as the ledges due to the rocky limestone reefs. The bay has no sand and is formed of stone and smooth flat rocks. Take care near the concrete slipway as there are some submerged spikes! In a north westerly the reefs can hold up very large waves; however, due to the rocks, this venue is suitable for experts only in these conditions. On light wind days, the locals say any level can be catered for.
Parking
Cliff top parking for approximately 1,000 cars. Access to the bay itself is via a toll road where visitors are charged entry during the holiday season (expect to be charged per board) thereafter, parking is free.
Facilities
Village shops are approximately 10 minutes walk away. An ice cream van visits throughout the summer. Public toilets are near the bay. Dorset Wildlife Trust runs a marine centre which is open every day in summer. The only sailing venue we know of that has its own Folly, a cliff top tower.
