Vannies have previously been able to stay over in the large car park at the back, but best to ask owner for permission as it has been revamped. The pub also has B&B accommodation for anyone who doesn't fancy camping.

Will be down in large white Mercedes Sprinter reg. MU51 EXV, no mobile reception down on the beach, and bring lots of change for the exorbitant parking meters down on the beach.

This will not be a National Windsurfing Week Event as planned as the host was badly injured and not able to attend. See comments below.

We will be heading down Friday night with the girls and allour toys. Hopefully we'll have as good a time as last year.

Added by Genevieve on 27/04/10

We will be joining you - Juan is altering the van as we speak, to less toys more beds.

I'm afraid it's not been a good start to the hosting season this year, with Bill & Heather marooned by volcanic activity in the USA last weekend. Whilst playing football yesterday as part of a Portsmouth FC initiative to get the unemployed fit, my leg just went pop and I fell poleaxed onto the ground. After a trip to Portsmouth hospital I have a ruptured archilles tendon and a leg in plaster. It seems I will be out of business for a few months, and so will not be able to host the Bigbury event this coming weekend. Absolutely gutted, had a great sail on Sat at Hayling when the wind suddenly re-appeared from nowhere, and I was very much looking forward to the annual pilgrimage to one of the best spots on the coast. If some-one could take over as host, that would be appreciated. Hope you all have a great time, Stevie G

Steve - I'm really sorry to hear about your achilles. I've known a few people with such an injury and it is pretty painful. If there is anything we can do just give us a call.

As it is now I don't think we can make this weekend as Rebecca has Rounders match and the weather looks pretty dire (no wind and cold). If there are enough other people going I will keep the posting for it being part of the NWW. Otherwise I will pull that.

What a kick in the teeth. Don't worry mate, not sure you are going to miss a lot by the looks of the forecast

We've booked into the Royal Oak Fri/Sat/Sun so will be heading down but to be honest I'm not overly optimistic we'll be on the water - Cold, raining, northerly winds, no swell - not one of my favourite forecasts to be honest. Probably end up visiting my old haunts in Plymouth - Cap'n Jaspers!!!! Anyway we'll pop round and give your leg a kick soon...

The Weekend
Not looking too good for surf over the bank holiday weekend, Northerly wind making north coast messy but not enough swell showing at the moment to produce a wave on South coast.

Saturday 1st May '10
Small and messy on North, clean and flat on South coast!

Wind direction: Moderate NW
Swell direction and quality: W 9 seconds
North coast: 2ft
South coast: flat

Sunday 2nd May '10
Similar conditions to Saturday.

Wind direction: Moderate N
Swell direction and quality: WSW 11 seonds
North coast: 2-3ft
South coast: 1ft

Roger where did you get your forecast from? It is a little more accurate than windguru etc...

Added by jonathan on 28/04/10

Sorry to hear about the achilles, and sorry I missed you on Sunday. I'll avoid drawing any comparisons between you and Beckham.
We were thinking of camping down at Bigbury but I think the forecast has put us off. However by way of encouragement to those going, we were down there two years ago when the wind went NE. Dead calm everywhere else but the wind was accelerated out of the rivermouth meaning you could catch what swell there was. You never know....

Bad news Steve; bummer.

Will give Bigbury a miss this year.

Mike.

Good luck with your recovery Steve. Annoyingly, its one of those things that takes quite a bit of time. Hope you find something fun to do that doesn't need an Achilles ;)

I was planning on going to Bigbury this weekend, having barely sailed since last time there! However, it does rather sound as if no one else will be there, so I'll hold fire until the next event.

We are still going Roger - so Amelie and the boys should have lots of fun! We now have 5 beds in the van,,,and this is the test weekend away. We are staying on the farm campsite so just around the corner from the pub. I think it will be quite good actually. But we will miss having Steve's bar and Leuda's joyous laughter. Nick and Rick say they will be down. Could be a boys night out. We will get there sometime tomorrow, leaving early in the morning.
