Poole Windfest 10-12 Sept

Carl at Poole

Poole

Poole is one of the best windsurfing areas in England for beginners and intermediates due to the enormous expanse of shallow flat water in the harbour. There is plenty of variety for experts too. OMWC events are held at a number of different venues in Poole, so make sure you check the event information for the precise location where we will be meeting. Should the wind be in the wrong direction, it is easy to switch venues and to find somewhere where the wind is much better.

Mark & I will be hosting this year. We'll probably aim to sail off Branksome Dene chine, unless it's off shore in which case we'll head to the harbour. If there's no wind (as is often the case for 'wind'fest) there are loads of other things going on around Sandbanks and the harbour, and there will no doubt be SUP's for hire.

Evening wise there are no plans as yet. There is a windfest party but this usually requires buying tickets in advance. We'll probably look at going to one of the windsurfer friendly bars such as The Bermuda Triangle in Ashley Cross.

Accommodation wise there is a campsite at Beacon Hill, but it is a taxi ride away. Van wise there are not many options around Sandbanks for overnight parking although you might be lucky and get a space by St Peter's Church, Ashley Cross.

Good spot for van parking is Park Lake Road, right by the boating lake in a quiet residential area. Short walk into Poole under the railway line (pedestrian tunnel). Has been used many times for overnighting after a few shandies.

Anyone planning on heading down to Poole this weekend?

hi Jude, we're hoping to get down but I'm still under the weather so unlikely to be sailing - more likely a leisurely stroll around the Windfest :(

Is Branksome Dene Chine confirmed yet? Where exactly will you be if you are not there?

Hi Neil,
We'll go to the Windfest event itself down at Sandbanks if not at Branksome. It looks like there is some wind along with rain tomorrow morning (saturday) but the wind then drops off so more likely to head to the Windfest pm. Call or text us on 07926099947 to check.
Mark
p.s. Car Park tickets for Branksome should also be good for Sandbanks as they come under Pooles Beach Car Parks.

In the evening we're going to go to the Bermuda Triangle pub in Ashley cross. They don't do food, but there are various food places in the immediate vicinity (curry, thai, tex-mex etc).
