| Event report | Event report for Weymouth, 28-31 August |
Lawrence and I will be down in Weymouth for the whole of the weekend- and will be based at the boat yard/car park just past the Ferrybridge on the left. We will probably wait to see who turns up and then book a table at the Turks Head for either the Sat or the Sun eve.
More info to follow...

Hi- more info....
tides are .. Sat - high 0837 low 1345 , Sun - high 0900 low 1405 , Mon - high 0922 low 1422
You can sail in Portland harbour in all tides- but at low tide you have to watch out for sand bars and seaweed. I have had quite a few abrupt stops!- and in the past I used to avoid 2 hrs either side of low tide. Otherwise- you can walk your kit out from the beach to get deeper water.
Traditionally we have always met at the boat yard- which costs about £5 cars, £8 vans for the whole day - and slightly less after 2pm. There are toilets there and a small cafe- but no showers at the moment. You can park on the roadside near the sailing acadamy on Portland (turn left at the first roundabout as you get to Portland and park on the left)- which is free, and quite easy to carry your kit down onto the water.
If it is windy enough to windsurf on the Saturday- we will park in the boat yard in our huge blue transit van- to meet up with om-ers probably around midday onwards. If no wind- we will probably cycle to the boat yard from my parents- and chill on the beach before doing a mountain bike ride around Portland if anyone is interested. My mobile is 07887 481213.
As mentioned before - we will book a table at the Turks Head for either the Sat or Sun.
See you there.....

That's probably East Fleet campsite. It was a regular of the club quite a few years ago.
All being well Sally and I are planning to come down.

We are keen to come to Weymouth having enjoyed Calshot/Summer Bash so much. Has anyone booked a campsite ? East Fleet and a number of others have 5 nights minimum stays in place - not helpful.
We are looking inland and further away now.
Thanks

Do let me know what you find. In the past the old favourites of East Fleet and Sea Barn have insisted on 3 nights' minimum which I can live with - paying for 5 nights minimum is a bit excessive though! We are supposed to be guinea pig sitting but are hoping to make it down at some point. (I know, cannot believe our Bank Holiday is being determined by a rodent)

To Jonathan:- if that rodent finds out you intend to leave it for the weekend, you know it will probably escape its cage before hand & chew through your sails

Ref Campsites in/around Weymouth. Nuala is back tonight (she has been away visiting friends), she looked into camp sites for the last bank holiday, I will ask her if she has more/can find out more details, to make a post shortly.
Lawrence.

We have booked Warmwell NE and inland of Weymouth now. Bring the guinea pig with you!

Hi- I dont know the name of the campsite (near Chickerell) that the others used before- but they said it was ace- think it was Claire, Nick & Sarah, Carl and Marion and Liz & Steve who stayed there- maybe they can post with the details. Glad so many are coming to Weymouth- fingers crossed for the wind. Nuala x

Sally and I have now booked East Fleet as our big bus needs a bit of space and we've decided to stay for a long weekend.

New campsite to try out:
Mrs M Webb (Proprieter)
South Buckland Farm
Nottington
Weymouth
Dorset

Small, Quiet and fairly basic. Good location for the Turk's Head pub, as just inland from there.

Hi- Lawrence has put the link on for the sailing acadamy which do van parking for £12- just to mention that this will also include being able to park and launch during the day. Nuala x

me again- just in case you havent read the info from the last bank holiday event here- wanted to mention that the guy who runs the Blue Horizon boat yard (where we launch from) said that people can stay overnight in the carpark- and just make a voluntary contribution to the RNLI of about a £1. There are no showers though. Nuala x

......plus, When we drove down to Weymouth this Tuesday night (for the Weymouth Carnival on Wednesday.....as an aside, shouldn't we organise an OMWC float next year
), Nuala mention some people were considering staying in Warmwell on the bank holiday - please note at night with little traffic it took a good 20mins to get to Portland & with the current road works in Weymouth (in preparation for the olympics) & during typical bank holiday weekend mid morning traffic, it will probably take a lot longer.......you may want to factor this in to your plans if you are looking at staying in Warmwell or other areas significantly outside Weymouth.

discovered that South Buckland farm is full so we're still considering our options. If we come down I think it might be better value to go for a hotel than a campsite!

we've shunned the campsites (particularly in view of the wild and windy forecast!) and have just booked the Premier Travel Inn - still a few rooms left if anyone else is interested...
