Lovely sail. 5.9m was about right - although seemed a long time since I needed anything that big. Great conditions for trying a bit of freestyle, got back into my upwind 360s and managed a couple of downwind 360s. Should have put on more sunblock though....

Rounded off with a great fish and chip supper.

What a day. Best sail so far this year. Great wind, sunshine and lots of ocean motion people around. Fun evening at the pub too! Bliss.

A bit of rain on the way down, clouds coming and going... but it all turned out alright in the end!

Despite the pessimism of some, suggesting 6+m and even some of the Hayling stalwarts overheard talking about 7.5m, I went with the trusty 5.5, on the new Tushie mast looking resplendently white, and the just-in-case choice of the 102l JP. A bit smaller would have been good... headed off to the sandbar as it looked a bit wavy. What a good idea... spent an hour and a half having fun, crappy waves but always good to be playing in the sun!

Stopped for lunch and to catch up with Juan and Gen and all the other guys who'd turned up.

The wind had come up a bit, and Gen reported good results on her 77l waveboard, so took out the 80l Starboard for the second session. Just bashed up and down really this time, a few nice jumps, good to be out with Juanito sledging around on his new RRD speedsled. Did a couple of forward loop practice jumps around the mast, think I'll have to work on that a bit! Defo need to try baling out at high speed to get the nerve up.

And the evening's fish, chips and beer hit the spot - bit sleepy driving home but made it ok. Thanks everyone!

Beautiful sunny afternoon but oh my god that bast*rd Hayling chop - my ankle is suffering today. Great to see so many people out on the water though.

Added by johng on 10/07/11

Yeah... so that's why my ankles are killing me!! Knee too... Bah!! Let's tow this puppy somewhere warm and swelly...

You 2 just monning when do we get force 5 in July?

Added by johng on 12/07/11

Good point, well made... And I'm regretting not trying harder on the looping front already...

Added by rogerta on 12/07/11

Yeah shut your bl**dy whinging John and get looping - was the water too cold for you pet... ;)

Seriously though - if you want some great visualisation for looping though - check this www.youtube.com/watch

Added by beth on 12/07/11

Awesome video - I feel like I can almost feel that loop - off to Lanzarote where hopefully I'll try those four steps.

Added by johng on 13/07/11

Good video!! I can do the over the front without the board, but I'm having probs with being happy about going with it! So his approach of ramping up the speed/height etc. whilst executing the move in the straps is gonna help a lot

Added by paolo on 15/07/11

if anyone go to Hayling again to try out looping, i wanna join and try looping too!

First time in Hayling, I had a short but amazingly smooth session, maybe the best I've ever had, with winds almost constant, pretty much perfect for my 6.0
This saturday, I just wished I had a smaller board and more time :)

Saturday started off a bit indifferent but turned into a gorgeous afternoon and evening. Unfortunately as the weather improved and the tide came in the water got very choppy - but the wind wasn't strong enough for my small board - so had to put up with it! Still it was good fun - great to see so many people out -and lots more old faces turning up! All rounded off with a very pleasant evening down at The Yew Tree.

Another great session at Hamworthy. Wind was blowing steady Force 4/5, the sun was out and the water was not too busy. I'm currently struggling to tack consistently with the new board and the chop was making waterstarting tricky. Fortunately managed to find a sandbar which I could stand on to beachstart, which made things a lot less knackering. Was out nearly 4 hours with only a short stop for lunch and to check the cricket scores. Great day, not even the dog turd I stepped in whilst I was rigging up could dampen my spirits! New Dakine footstraps worked well, much easier to get in and out of than the original Tabou ones.

Virtually no wind when we got down to the beach. Beautiful sunny day so decided to rig anyway. When I first went out had to pump like mad for intermittent planing. Then a little bit of a sea breeze came in and getting going was much easier. Everybody else gave up but I had a lovely time in the sunshine!
