Nice day but not as much wind as forecast. Decided to sail from Calshot, pass Lepe and towards Lymington and then across to Gunard. Cruising day in the sunshine. Hopefully back here next week with the club......

Lovely sail at Hayling.

Arrived around 3pm to gloomy reports of wind dropped, too light now, but I thought it looked ok.

I had an excellent sail, a bit onshore and a bit light but the super swell made up for it. Planing almost all the time. Only Me, Mike T and half a dozen others out.

Wind looked a bit marginal Saturday afternoon so rigged my 8.0m - and had a great time - despite the wind being almost due southerly. It was a gorgeous day although the wind had a definite bite to it and the water was refreshing! Shame there weren't a few more members out enjoying themselves but Nick, Andrew, Clare and myself all went to the Yew Tree - and thoroughly enjoyed their lamb shanks!

I just had the strangest day at Hayling. SE winds with little waves. Both directions you were never sure if you should jump the wave or surf it. The sun was glaring in my eyes as I caught my fin on the sand bar a mile out at sea and the place was packed. Altogether a pretty good day though.

Testing a new board
Rating:4 star rating
Board:93 litres

Slightly unusual direction for Avon, quite onshore. In the morning there were some excellent ramps giving some great starboard tack jumping on the way out. The wind eventually came round dead onshore, then continued round further so by the end of the day we were jumping going out on port tack. Had a good time testing a new board which despite a few flat landings is still in one piece. Great to see Bernie managed to squeeze the motorhome into a packed car park and was then able to enjoy it with us. The forecasted gales never quite showed up (not until now anyway) but it was still a pretty good session.

Vulcan attempt # 1

Thought I'd better not stray too far from home given that Jane is 38 weeks pregnant. Also, if I am honest, I had a sneaky feeling that Hillhead would be better than Hayling today - SSE is pretty much cross shore at Hillhead (and tends to be nicely accelerated by funnelling along the Solent).
I wasn't disappointed. Initially went out on my 99l freestyle board and 5.3m. It started a bit marginal, became well powered, and then became uncomfortably overpowered. Switched to a smaller board and 4.7m and immediately got the biggest jumps I've ever had at Hillhead. Not sure if it was the favourable angle of the chop to the wind or whether its because I prefer port tack jumping (probably a bit of both).
A great afternoon.. and a beautiful sunny day. Just a shame a didn't manage to meet up with everyone at Hayling.

Excellent afternoon at bracklesham- this place is getting a bit of reputation as I have never seen it so busy. Really nice swell - 3-4 foot. Peaking 4-5ft out back - got some great vertical airs. Sufficiently x-shore to get some nice down the line rides as well. My new shitty extension however managed to pop from the base and I ended up swimming board and rig in - getting tumbled in the white water. Thought I had made it until the sail and board got tangled and the fin punctured the sail - thank god for x-ply. Great afternoon though. Tomorrow looks good as well - excellent I'm on leave!!

might make it there tomorrow if I can bear the pain of my broken toe.

The forecasted winds didnt materialise Sunday afternoon so went with my 5.7 but put it on the Free Diamond 70 - not an ideal combination - but one that certainly worked well enough! Had a great afternoon despite the South Easterly wind creating some very strange conditions. Good to see quite a few other Ocean Motionites out as well -but where were the rest of you? It was a lovely day - warm wind and the water temperature still quite pleasant. Hope to see you at Lepe next weekend - clocks back time and the end of this seasons formal events

Turned up a bit later than I should have and struggled to get into the car park at Avon Beach; Carl was already out, plus quite a few others, and a lot of kiters. The wind had dropped a bit so I rigged a 6m which was only just enough, and for the first 30 minutes I struggled to get going, but then I let off some downhaul and the wind picked up, and the next hour was great fun, managing to get some gybes in eventually, and enjoying some jumping. Note to self: need to go to Avon Beach more often!

For me a slightly challenging sailing at Hayling, but despite the waves it was still very enjoyable.
Absolutely exhausted after only 60min, maybe I should start pumping iron during weekdays!

(I hope I will have time to see you all at Lepe next weekend)
