Has anyone been there recently ? Any recommendations - hotel, time of year, windsurf centre?

Best months july, aug and sept. I lived out there for 3 months last year.

Hi Audrey, it is Helen and my favourite location. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the windsurfing centre, I think it is called the Suza or similar. There are about 3 windsurfing centres together, and we use the Mistral one. It is about 50m from the centre to the water.

The first 500m of the wet stuff is shallow and clear blue, so great for practicing, falling off, then beach starting. Then the water gets dark blue and deeper, and a little choppy, but nothing too lumpy. It is basically a flat water blasting and freestyle centre, and they sometimes hold the European Freestyle championships there.

It is a small and unspoilt centre, with a great cafe, and very friendly. The village of Alacati is a few miles away, about 5 minutes in a taxi, but is full of restaurants and is a great night out.

Simon Bornhoft runs courses there and Helen has been on about six of them (yes that's the number six, she really loves the place....or Simon Bornhoft...or probably both!)
