Summer Bash at Calshot

Gary at Lepe

Lepe & Calshot

We like it here! This is another one of those venues where Jo Public windsurfer rarely ventures and we usually have the entire place to ourselves (plus a few day trippers but it is rarely crowded). If there is wind in The Solent, it is usually one Beaufort stronger here because of the prominent position, being the closest point to The Isle of Wight.

Event report Event report Event report for Summer Bash at Calshot
Once again, Calshot has been selected as the venue for the OMWC Summerbash. The previously successful agenda hasn't changed either - roll up on the Saturday, to enjoy a selection of the Calshot-provided activities or just windsurfing (!), eat at the excellent cafe, chat with your mates, bop to the music of the JG band, camp over and repeat on Sunday until it's time to go home. Nuala has offered to plan a kiddies' picnic again, and she'll also have some bike routes to amuse you in the unlikely eventuality that it's not windy (and possibly rainy ;) ).

Should be as popular and well-attended as it has been in previous years - come to Calshot for a great weekend!

If you want to attend you'll have to register. The fee, including camping on Saturday night and parking all weekend, is £10 for adults, and £6 for under-18s (isn't that all of us, secretly?). There's an additional charge of £1 per day to launch your board. So, for example, if you had 2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 boards, that would be £34.

The Calshot people need numbers by 6 July, so registering before then is required. To register, please use the "Donate - Make a donation to OMWC" link on the lefthand side of the website home page. Specify what you're paying for (camps, boards, people type) in the payment comment.

If you want to arrive and camp on Friday, please let us know as well - Calshot have asked if we can let them know numbers etc. There will

Calshot reception closes at 7 pm on Friday so if anyone is going to arrive after that time they would need to contact the Duty Manager on 07957 687713 - he works until 10 pm.

I'm investigating the pre-specification of cafe meals, if the cafe people think that would be helpful. I'll write that up as soon as I know more.

Looking forward to an excellent weekend - see you there!

Hey John - don't you mean £34 for the example above? Typo? Or perhaps on the sauce again?

BTW - We are coming too ! Looking fwd to it.

Added by jonathan on 17/06/12

Hi John - we'll be coming but unfortunately only for the Saturday as Nayra has a gymnastics 'competition' on the Sunday. I presume we don't need to register etc?

Hello all, I just paid our fee for the Calshot weekend. 2 adults + 2 kids. If we decide to spend Friday night camping in the area, does anyone have any site recommendations?

Added by Genevieve on 30/06/12

Hi John,
Juan and the family are now registered to party at Calshot!

Added by johng on 02/07/12

Four (4!) days left to register for the Summerbash!! We need the numbers to ensure that we get a good spot for camping, that is convenient for us as a group, so please do it NOW!

Added by Kev_F on 02/07/12

Kev and Ali have paid and we will contact Calshot direct to see if we can stay Friday night there too, like we have done before. See you there! Is anyone else going down Friday too?

Added by johng on 02/07/12

For those wanting to camp on the Friday night, or be there only on the Saturday and not camp, I'm inquiring about that, and will get info out as soon as I get it. Provided they have room, I expect it will be possible to stay at Calshot.

Hi- Lol, myself and two boys will be there. I suggest we do the same as other years with the kiddie picnic- everyone bring something healthy and something unhealthy to share with the kids- prob around 4:30-5pm- tho I guess this will be weather dependant.
I will also bring a bike route for those who want it- again weather dependant.
See you there....

Let's hope it's windy because the ford focus may not have enough space for the bikes! JP & Tracy will join you all from Saturday 11-ish.

Added by jonathan on 03/07/12

Hi Nuala - we'll be there on the Saturday! Heath looking forward to meeting everyone!

Added by Yannis on 03/07/12

Guys, any news on Friday night's camping? We have made a provisional booking elsewhere, but of course we would prefer to be on-site.

Also, if Friday night happens, we would like directions to the actual camping spot (haven't been to Calshot before). We don't want to camp on Friday night and come Saturday morning we find ourselves pitched at a Tesco carpark!

Added by johng on 03/07/12

Camping on Friday - please let us know IMMEDIATELY if you want to camp on Friday night, and numbers! Calshot have asked if we can let them know numbers etc.

Calshot reception closes at 7 pm on Friday so if anyone is going to arrive after that time they would need to contact the Duty Manager on 07957 687713 - he works until 10 pm.

We'd like to camp on Friday night, 2 adults and the pup, do we need to contact Calshot direct?
