Bramblebush 4-5 August

Carl at Poole

Poole

Poole is one of the best windsurfing areas in England for beginners and intermediates due to the enormous expanse of shallow flat water in the harbour. There is plenty of variety for experts too. OMWC events are held at a number of different venues in Poole, so make sure you check the event information for the precise location where we will be meeting. Should the wind be in the wrong direction, it is easy to switch venues and to find somewhere where the wind is much better.

To anyone planning to go, which camping site do you plan to stay at? The one with the nice bay views I assume, but what is it called?!?!

Added by NickB on 17/07/12

Yannis I don't think I know the one to which you refer.

Apparently Acton fields is the one previously used and the following is an extract from Genevieve for the last visit.

"Access to the campsite is quite simple...
Coming from Poole/Bournemouth/Dorchester, head for Wareham and follow the signs to Corfe Castle on the A351. On leaving Corfe Castle take the B3069 up to Kingston and then follow the ridge round to the left towards Langton Matravers. The campsite is on the second right turning after the village sign.

If you are coming from Swanage, as you leave the town follow the B3069 up onto the ridge into Langton Matravers. Pass Putland Farm and The Kings Arms on your left and carry on through the village. The campsite is the last turning on the left as you leave the village.

Facilities include a simple toilet block with hot showers. The showers are on a meter so make sure you bring some 20p's! There is also a chemical disposal point on site and dustbin area which is emptied regularly.

A mobile grocery van visits the site providing fresh bread, vegetables, newspapers and other essential items. If you like to be able to walk to the pub for food and drink then we have The Kings Arms only about half a mile away in Langton Matravers. Otherwise there is the now world famous Square and Compass in Worth Matravers about three miles from the campsite."

The school holidays will have commenced so not sure how full the campsites get. From what I understand they do not take bookings.

Thanks Mike - nice little map. You could also add my favourite - Burnbake campsite. Very informal, mainly wooded, masses of space. Park anywhere and guy comes aroun in the morning to collect money.

Andrew - Have added it. Well spotted. Cycled past Burnbake not long ago, looks nice.

We booked Saturday night at Corfe Castle camping.

Sally and I have booked Haycraft campsite near Harman's Cross Swanage Railway stop. We are travelling down Thursday evening. Apparently it is the Swanage Carnival this week and there are Fireworks on the Friday at 945pm. Trains are also running later. Check out the Swanage Railway website for timetables between Corfe Castle and Swanage. Primrose Hill Farm and Sunny Glade campsites are also on on Haycrafts Lane for Caravan Club members

Added by NickB on 30/07/12

Sorry Fireworks are Saturday 4th NOT Friday

Added by Kev_F on 30/07/12

Pretty sure you can camp at primrose hill farm regardless of caravan club membership. V nice site with sweet lady running it. Not level though.

So given the forecast which beach will be the gathering spot? We will drive down Saturday morning and plan to be there 10-11.

Added by NickB on 02/08/12

I'm heading to Bramblebush which is the harbour side just after the chain link ferry from Sandbanks. i.e. On the road to Studland/Swanage.

Hi I am hoping to come down on Saturday morning (early), with my partner Kelly (none windsurfer). Looking forward to meeting everyone. With regards to camping where are people staying. Which campsite has a pub within walking distance (staggering distance)?

Rob

Here is the link for the action campsite from a previous weekend

Rob, judging from this list, there is no organised camping effort for the weekend, so it sounds like people will stay wherever.

We didn't want to risk going to a first-come-first-served campsite, so we booked one night at Corfe Castle camping. See you on the beach.
