This was an ilicit lliaison on a friday. It was sunny, warm and the water was whipping up with the wind as it built up over the day...A southern cross mental health day, as kiwi steve called them. Thanks to some supportive enthusiasm from a fellow windsurfer, stole the gear from the van and popped it into the new car showing reckless abandon for the leather seats - it is supposed to be a 4x4 anyway...! and got to the beach and back in time for school pick up and no one would ever know ,,,

It was windy and we had to get down early to avoid high tide. A nice surprise was that Steve G. beat us all onto the water and when we arrived at 10, he was in changing his gear around. He was happy and enjoying the great sailing. Heather and Bill were also out. It was my turn, as Juan sailed on Friday night and did his highest jump ever apparently, while I was reading bed time stories with the boys. It was ok and I got out to the sandbar. The 5.4 was cranked down as really should have had 5.0 and when the wind picked up another force it was clearly powered up. Juan's Naish is nice, nearly as nice as mine...The waveshapes were small, closely packed and some odd refractions going in all directions, so a bit of jumping with care and that was it really. Felt a pang for Bracklesham or Shoreham...next time...Came in at high tide for a break.

Overpowered, which was a real pest when trying to turn on the waves. But what delicious waves!!!SE swell rolling in quite big and rising on the sandbar. Thanks to Sydney and Tim, I had lots of tips on what to try - one handed stroking the wave when going up the wave and I lost count of all the turns on these unusually long lovely waves. Beth and I had a good go at using every ounce of the day. Amazing that you just don't notice the cold when it is sunny and gorgeous like this - even Beth said that! I did learn that you just can't try back loops with such big gear. If only I had taken my 5.4 and 78L, but the rule in winter has always been to make sure you can plane as it is cold to be sitting around in the water! Roger missed out, babysitting Amelie - you could see the pain in his eyes. Juan and John had a great time. I was inspired and later shopped online for a new single thruster and 6.1 atlas or firefly.

Amazing swell and unusually warm at 10 degrees, so this was my last chance before the wrist operation and it was fantastic - thanks Juan! a good few trys and maybe one good backloop.

smaller gear, slightly; boom came undone but still ended up with an ok placing somehow, by catching a late gust and being upwind; luckily didn't fall off rounding marks (or wobbling in the lack of wind)

1st for ladies, 6th overall was the best result; then 1st for ladies and 11th overall; not so quick with in the others - something like 43rd overall, 1st for ladies - had to tack up wind twice to get to the buoy; then another maybe 22nd overall, 1st for ladies. They weren't giving prizes to ladies, the sexist gits. So I will just have to get 1st overall next time.

We had great fun in the last of the BST trying to inch offshore with swelly wavy bits in an onshore breeze. Yoli had another go and enjoyed uphauling - quite challenging in the white water bits. A bit showery and the wind came and went, but mostly sunny. The boys loved it. Nice to see Mike Tate, John Gouk, Heather and Bill, Jonathon, Adrian, Trevor and quite a few others - but we didn't see Ian?

Yeah, top marks to Yoli! I'm amazed at the tenacity of beginners! Windsurfing must be really addictive or something...

After a visit to Marwell zoo for the gang's birthday, we rock up to Hayling a little late and for the incoming high tide. A messy but breezy day, nice and sunny but with no swell and no sandbar. But you can't have everything all of the time, otherwise you won't appreciate it when you do have it. A big turnout - some earlier and some later.
Great to sail with John G, Mike T, Juan (!), Jonathon briefly packing up when we arrived. We met some great new ocean going sailors- Ian; and Harald - hopefully they will join us again.

Evening sailing in a lovely sea-breeze and glorious summer evening. Juan and I zipped down to the beach as soon as Juan's parents arrived from the airport and took command of the team. Great to sail together. Beautiful evening. Sailed from the Inn on the beach.
Wonderful feeling of ilicit enjoyment on a weekday. We resolve to make the most of the summer light.

This was my most enjoyable wave day ever, with comfy windspeed, sunshine and long lines of nicely shaped waves arriving regularly on the sandbar and spreading across the bay for a reasonable distance. On one ride, I notched up the most turns ever, with 7, yes 7, turns, and probably some spray on the early one, but I won't have the video footage to know...YAY - thanks for getting me on the water and giving me a lift home John G, as the boys appreciated their nap!!!That was the best early xmas present EVER
