Last day in Lanzarote today and more of the same. 5.9 started off too small but ended up pretty stacked. Shame there weren't more waves but mustn't grumble as it was another beautiful afternoon. Last few days might not have been epic but planing on a 5.9m everyday isn't too shabby....

Today looked very light and even the centre staff were telling people it wasn't worth bothering, but I was sure there was wind and found that out the back 5.9m was a perfect size - nothing epic but an enjoyable sail interspersed with assisting with a couple of rescues. Doing my thing for international relations I like to think. Yet again Costa Teguise showed its ability to surprise.

Another light wind session in Lanzarote although was planing more than I expected and quite frankly after a morning of work it was nice just to get out on the water.
Spent a bit of time on light wind loop attempts although a world of difference between doing them off the plane and six feet in the air..

Excellent day on the water. Morning on 100l skate afternoon on 95l triwave.
In contrast to Wednesday, morning was just nicely powered not much waves albeit a few ramps for some floaty jumps on the skate.
Afternoon started quite marginal but wind and waves improved as the afternoon progressed. Some big backloops being pulled and Mr Frans with his usual unbelievable combination moves - I just cannot get my head around the physics of how he completes something like a burner with so much momentum that he progresses straight into a second one. Definitely a good day as the locals were sailing well into the evening.

So a somewhat overcast bank holiday in the harbour, it must be Weymouth right? No, Costa Teguise actually. 5.6 was perfect, could have been a little less actually. The funny thing about this place is every now and again an oversize wave comes through - not life threatening as they don't close out, but they certainly wake you up. Plenty of people out (including the Frans brothers) but plenty of room for everyone.
The nice thing about a point break such as here is you can play in the waves but then try a bit of freestyle at each end - without feeling you might get a stray wave on the head. Only downside was one big crash where I thought I had broken my finger - that's going to be bruised in the morning!

What a difference a Skate makes! Didn't really enjoy the freewave yesterday but today albeit with a bit more wind the skate was a joy - planing far earlier than the more voluminous freewave. Had a lovely sail, the wind built during the afternoon. Also some fantastic freestyle going down. One guy looked very familiar - it was Tonki Frans who apparently pretty much lives out here now - I've never seen such powerful freestyle moves. And sun!! Hopefully some waves will also put in an appearance later this week :)
