Rigged up, dropped in the windless zone so had to swim through it, planed once and then wind dropped. Long swim back. So nothing much to write home about... Which begs the question why am I writing home about it?

Because we're all agog at your exploits! Nice to here Fanatic Gecko works well - did it let you down this time?

Not a gecko problem - general poor timing on my part :(

First day at Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. Seemed to have caught a heat wave - 35 degrees and no sign of rain - I had forgotten what 'no rain' looks like.
Forecast not great for the week but got out on our first day. First time I had sailed here - lovely spot, bit of a wind shadow close to the beach but as someone used to Dahab I wasn't complaining. Revelation of the day was sailing the 2012 Skate. What a board! I have a 2007 99 but this was a completely different animal: wider, thinner, tighter tail, and far more controllable on the water and in the air than my 99. Very short - initially felt like a hypersonic rather than a freestyle board, but it is recoverable from seemingly impossible angles. Might be on my shopping list soon... I am not a big believer in 'boards get better every year' but I guess the passage of 5 years does make a difference - especially when freestyle moves are developing so quickly.
