It might not have been sunny today but great wind. First hour or so was flatwater freestyle, then some nice ramps on the sand bar and even a few waverides. The waves then subsided and it was back to freestyle. Plenty of people out but the sailing was spread over a pretty wide area.
5.9 was the perfect size for today.

Really good day at Haying today. The first hour and the last hour were a bit iffy but the hour and half in the middle was very good, with 5.9 perfect.
Very flat, turned out to be a great freestyle day. After years of trying got 3 downwind 360s so very pleased with that. Surely 3 cannot be a fluke?
Car park rammed but good to see quite an OMWC turnout.
Just discovered the downside of long-sleeved summer wetsuits - rather silly tanlines....

I somehow wangled another 'pass' for the weekend following yesterday's waste-of-an-afternoon.
Unfortunately it looked like it was going to be the same again - the wind dropped as I rigged up. The wind had moved northerly slightly earlier than forecast. However I persevered and gradually the rather large holes in the wind got smaller and I spent more time planing. Mega flat for freestyle practice. There were some very small but well formed waves on the sandbar however getting over them in the very offshore wind was pretty 'technical': you ended up jumping on a very broad reach with the wind powering up the rig and driving the nose of the board down: care had to be taken to avoid going over the handlebars.
Downwind 360s remained as elusive as ever but got some upwinders. All-in-all a nice afternoon with not many people out.

Headed down to Hayling when it appeared that the wind had picked up. Indeed it had when I was rigging up but dropped as soon as I had one planing run on the water.
Sadly there were various ambulance crews trying to resuscitate someone taken ill on the beach and eventually the air ambulance arrived.
All in all, not the most enjoyable afternoon windsurfing...

Thought I was quite early today but had been beaten by Heather, Bill and Andrew. However arrived just as the heavens opened - a good opportunity to get a guided tour of Andrew's brand new van.
As the rain switched off, so did the wind. It returned, albeit somewhat less windy.
The 5.9 was the perfect size and kept me going nicely. The sun appeared and made it a very pleasant afternoon.

I came down with the family and it was good to see Yannis with his family in the new van. The wind took a while to stablize so spent the time making superheros in the sand with Heath. The wind finally materialized and I rigged up, just in time for it to drop. However after half an hour of blobbing about the wind strengthened until I was very well powered on my 5.9. Not much in the way of waves but a decent sail all the same.

What a lovely day! Wind a bit lighter than I had hoped but rigged the 5.3m in the hope/expectation of it strengthening over the afternoon, which it pretty much did - although remained pretty gusty.
The sun came out which made most of the afternoon pretty pleasant although towards the end the chill set it - although I had managed about 4 hours by then.
I caught it about 2 hours before low tide so most of the time it was flattish / freestyle - my best efforts at downwind 360s for some time. But couldn't resist hacking up to the sandbar when the waves started to appear although by then I was pretty tired. Got some nice jumps and a couple of waves.
I was one of the last to leave and the rain appeared the second I closed my door to head home - result!

Funny how fine the line is between a complete write-off of a session and actually good fun. Forecast looked great but I got down to find Bill and Heather looking glumly at the grey, rainy, sea - with nobody planing. It was very tempting to turn right around and head home (which actually wouldn't have made the whole afternoon a complete disaster as my new van much fun to drive).
The wind came up in front of a squall which persuaded us all to rig and then of course it dropped before we got onto the water. By this point I decided I had to get wet at least so went out to blob about and happily the wind picked up and before too long I was consistently planing on my 5.9m. Water mega flat so good for a bit of freestyle practice. Unfortunately today was the shortest day so had to come off the water about 4.15pm as it was getting too dark.
It had been ages since I was last on the water so great to get out.

was down at Hayling at about 8am - I think a record for me. Forecast was for the wind to drop but it had already dropped. Came up a little bit but quite frankly I was completely underpowered and spent little time planing. However the sun shone and it was good freestyle / tacking practice prior to my trip to Ireland so not a disaster - and of course the usual good company on the beach. Seemed to be picking up as I left no doubt I will hear that I should have stayed longer!

My first time out for 2 months and it turned put to be a funny old sail. Not been on my 6.4 since last year so a bit of faffing with that. Then a new harness that I didn't manage to tighten properly - which was a bit of a shame because the first hour or so was well powered, I was never off the plane. However just before the rest of the gang arrived it dropped off meaning Roger was fine on his 7.5 but I was struggling. Still, at least the sun came out... Eventually. Unbelievable to see Hayling so quiet on a sunny, windy(ish) weekend in August...
