Jonathan sailing at Yaverland

Moved around to Yaverland which was where Timo Mullen and Jamie Hancock had gone. Tide on the push was creating huge movement of water so despite strong winds still needed relatively big 5.3 sail to plane.
Well powered to start with and plenty of beach break waves to sail - this time onto a sandy beach rather than rocks! My Triwave was perfect - easy to plane getting out but good to turn on the waves.
Mid afternoon the wind dropped so made it a bit of a wobble. However after a night's driving and 2 sessions that was fine by me!

Sunrise over Ventnor

So having decided Ireland was not going to work we decided to decamp to the only place with forecast wind and swell during the wave week - the Isle of Wight. There then followed a mammoth race - 5 hours from Waterville to Rosslare 4.5 hours on the ferry, 4 hours Pembroke to Portsmouth and then 1 hour to Fishbourne and 30mins to Ventnor where we arrived for sunrise.
We went to Bonchurch for our sunrise sail. Somewhat ironic we were joined by Timo Mullin and Jamie Hancock - at least we knew we were in the best place!
Hard session due largely to fatigue having travelled all night with zero sleep. A reef break breaking onto rocks didn't exactly calm the nerves and the later video showed people bottom turning around protruding rocks - scary stuff. But the wave was nice and this was a memorable sail due largely to the mad road trip that got us there rather than than the standard of sailing. I certainly didn't do justice to the wave.

Wasn't expecting to sail today however some sun seemed to have created a bit of a sea breeze. Unfortunately by the time I had rigged, it seemed to have disappeared - so another hour or so of lightwind shenanigans.

Really didn't do very well with wind this week, but I would stress that Yaverland is a great beach and one I would very much like to sail at again with a bit more wind.

Still somewhat gusty but managed to get planing from time to time and had the whole bay to myself. Good for lightwind practice in between the planing runs

Wind wasn't enough to plane today, just to test my new harness and try and few light wind tricks

First time I had been to Yaverland. Despite my expectations, the wind direction wasn't too bad, albeit slightly offshore. Beautiful day, sandy beach, shorty was fine - so why was my sail so bad? My harness broke within 5 minutes and it was the only thing I didn't have a spare of :(:(:(
