Hayling Island on 08/07/12

Rating:3 star rating
Board:86 litres

Well I finally sailed Hayling Island. I must say the stones here are much nicer than Bramble Bush, a little more rounded and large enough so that they don't end up all through the car when packing up! I still had to borrow a pair of flip flops from my OMC sponsor who took pity on me as I hobbled down to the shore. I was initially underpowered on a NP 5.4 but as the wind filled I was able to carve through my gybes. I hiked upwind to the famous Hayling sandbar which certainly showed potential but the tide was rising. Wavelets came from a variety of directions but long low jumps were possible out near this weird pole that seems to be without purpose out near the channel. The water was not too cold either - mind you I was still wearing my cold weather Aussie wetsuit to keep the ice at bay. I was fully content after 2 hours and felt a little guilty that I did not exchange gear with Genevieve who was on a new 6.1 Fly - but I was not worthy of using such nice NP gear!! Next time K-Bay in mast high 30knots!!
