Another quick visit to Mercer's lake.

Lucas had a great time practising his stuff (no clue what he practices any more. He knows more theory than I do!)

I however, had one of the worst days in the water in living memory:
- Onshore wind kept pushing me towards the narrow bay in front of the club house.
- 120 lt. board buoyancy is fine in the sea, but sadly the lake's fresh water turned it into a sinker making it impossible to stand on it (forget water starts in small lakes). Struggled for 30 mins before I swapped the board
- Gust-galore finished me off

Excellent work!! Someone has to take this punishment in aid of research, so we don?t have to!

And yes, small lakes are rubbish.

First sail of the year at Mercers Lake.

This one was for the kids as well. Lucas was happily sailing on his Kode 123/2.5m and I practised my low speed tacks.

Lake water was surprisingly not freezing. Had my summer suit on and it was ok.

Looking forward to some salty water though.

I don't like small lakes. They smell mouldy, on a cloudy day the water looks black (not just grey, black!), the wind is patchy and very gusty and everything is covered in moss.

Nevertheless, Mercers lake is 30 mins drive from our house and has a nice sailing club, so a nice place to take the kids windsurfing to.

It was Lucas's turn this time. I realised yesterday that gusts can be good for the kids to practice sailing in stronger winds in small bursts without getting too overwhelmed. Kids are pretty self-reliant now, so all I did was keep my distance and stepped in just once to untangle him from some tree branches that had fallen in the water. Other than that, I did my usual non-planing stuff.
