Bracklesham at its best - cross-on with one of the longest period swells I've seen down there - there were acres of flats between the waves. Waves had plenty of punch for some backside riding and jumps. Fantastic evening. Only downer was it was cut short by the fact I managed to shear one of the bolts on my back footstrap on landing a jump.

Arrived at Bracklesham at lunchtime to find no-one out as it was high tide and completely onshore. Visited the surf shop to talk surfboards and then returned back to the beach and went out. It was challenging going given it was directly onshore with some fairly meaty white water around and the wind was very light on the inside. Once out back it was pretty mental but provided some great backside riding. Another great sail in the sunshine. Hope everyone else managed to grab some of this - excellent day.

Arrived down at Avon for an early session to find just one other guy out on a 3.6! Sunny, warm, windy with a few waves - you can't ask for more. Had a great sail - maximum of 4 people sailing - love it. Crowds started arriving about 10.30am so packed up and moved up to Bracklesham.

Decided to head home and try and get a sail on the south coast given how mental it was on the north. Got to Avon early evening and had a sail in choppy waves on the bar - good fun but given the epic conditions I'd had on the north coast - it didn't compare.

By the way have Chichester council lost the plot - £12 to park for over 4hrs at Avon Beach - unbelievable.

Well the wind that had been talked about all week really came in today. The main beach was totally unsailable today - closing out up and down the beach with white water as far as you could see. Went round to the other car park that the locals had been talking about. Definitely a great option although it can only be sailed either side of high tide and there is some serious tidal flow running through the estuary mouth. Effectively in a south westerly, you sail out from the south side of the estuary mouth across really smooth swell lines to the bar on the north side of the mouth where the waves are really ramping up. Definitely see the benefit in sailing from there but to be honest it was just too much survival conditions to enjoy. The wind was just mental making it a challenge just getting to the waters edge.

Started on a 5.5 but quickly changed down to a 4.7 which was the better option even if the conditions were quite gusty. An excellent sail with some decent swell coming in. Juan, John, Steve, Mark and Gen out as well. I think we out numbered the locals today. Fantastic to be out in the waves again and we were extremely lucky to get these conditions at this time of year. Sailing with friends and rounded off with a meal and a few beers at Ricks - what more can you ask for - an excellent day!!

Webcam looked awesome - sunshine, x-off, ground swell. Had to head down. Temperature was the only down side but bought a nobby balaclava and mitts and was surprisingly warm. Started with a 4.7 and quickly changed down to a 4.0. Wobbly on the inside but honking on the outside and certainly the waves had plenty of power that lack of wind was not an issue on the inside. Some excellent waves. Ended up sailing right through the afternoon and going back to the 4.7. Would have stayed longer as the waves just kept getting better and better despite the disappearing light and wind.

Ain't September brilliant. Its is without doubt my favourite and today only vindicated that view. Warm, sunny and windy - there is no better weather.

Started on 4.7 and had to drop to 4.0 later on. Waves had much more punch today and you could really get some kick off your top turns. Wind kept strengthening until I got faced with one curling monster on the outside and had nowhere to go but for a fully powered and committed jump. With the updraft off the face I got lifted pretty high at which point I realised I wasn't going to be able to control the landing so had to bail. The fall seemed to take an age but the landing didn't - I landed on my side winding myself in the process, my kit must have flown around 100m downwind. Called it a day after that as it was getting a little too crazy but after 4 hours on the water it was time.

Awesome late session down at Bracklesham. Arrived down about 6pm and had two hours of just fantastic sailing. Really nice ramps on the way out and some nice waves to ride on the way in. Just three of us out but loads of surfers - always a good sign. Very onshore but still able to get some frontside riding. Only surprise was the waves didn't have more power on the back of all that wind.

Awesome early doors session at Bracklesham. Only me and a couple of surfers - it was 6am when I launched though!!. Classic Bracklesham conditions - cross shore, really nicely spaced waves. Some of them were quite peaky out the back (5-6 foot) to get some real vertical air off. Nice rideable waves on the way back in. Best sail I've had in a long time - brilliant start to the week.

You lucky bugger. You deserve it though, driving to a beach and being ready to launch for 6:00am is mad, but well worth the effort by the sound of it.
