Arrived at Calshot - wind gusty, more SE than forecast, so somewhat onshore. It was of course raining. Not a very inspiring session, started on 80l, didn't feel comfortable, moved to 102l for most of the session but went back to 80l after the wind picked up a bit and fancied something a bit more sprightly. Bah humbug. Really must remember to enjoy windsurfing...
And it was raining when I left.

A quickie prior to leaving for home - boo. X-shore again, but not the same kind of swell, however made the most of it for the 45 minutes I had. This is a good spot! And it was good to be actually sailing in Cornwall - so often been skunked on these trips.

Started as I meant to go on - 4.7, 80l. Nice session with OMWC people, still some swell from the lows earlier. Managed to wear a hole in my hand with newly donned wedding ring - suboptimal!

Arrived in Cornwall, headed straight for the beach at Marazion, rigged up and went out. Why waste time on pleasantries?!
X-shore, good swell, quite a few people out, but very cold wind, it being easterly. Rigged 5.5 initially, but on first run out had arms removed, so changed down immediately to 4.7, much happier. Spent a couple of hours, a good session. Could probably have gone with 80l board on reflection.

Looked like a nice forecast, Chimet showing F5-6 about 8.30, so off to Hayling!
The reality: no rain, but not much wind either! However, some nice swell coming in rather tasty lines, from S/SSE, and wind something like WSW. So rather than struggle with a big sail or a tiny board, rigged the 5.5m and and 116l Playmate, and boffed out to see what we could do.
A very nice, lightweight session! Great to have actual swell, with lines you could go down to some extent. I followed some of them right to the beach, which was fun. Not too cold either, and the sun came out for a few minutes as I rigged up... Altogether a result.
After about 1.5 hours the wind dropped some more, and after a couple of uphauls, I decided to call it a day, what with cold feet n all. I really must check the waterproofness of those boots - they get water in, but they don't let it out! Went round to Steve and Leuda's house, and had a nice cup of tea with many choccy biscuits in the company of Juan, Gen and the bobsleigh team. A good day. Now, if only I had a spare heating pump, everything would be fine for Christmas 
...

As a committed Hayling Island groupie, once the slightest sign of wind and the merest possibility of sun were made known to me, I had to be there. And driving down it was lovely! Nice to be in the van, pootling along, listening to... The Archers Omnibus! I'd normally avoid it, but it had a timeless quality that I appreciated. Then Edward DeWal (The Hare with the Amber Eyes) on Desert Island Discs - interesting.
Juan was already rigged up as I got there, and about 5 minutes later the heavens opened, timed perfectly to soak me whilst rigging up. When will I learn just to sit in the van and wait it out? Presumably in some future where I am a better person, kind to small mammals and eternally patient with things that frustrate me now.
Anyway, spent some 90+ minutes splashing around on the emerging sandbar, some swell from the S/SE which was nice. The wind and rain came and went... Juan made it upwind to join me during a heavy gust, and then it all dropped a lot, so since my feet were very cold and completely insensitive I came in. Adrian (HG #1 - I think JH is HG #2, which must make me HG #3 or 4, depending on how JL would count himself...) had also given up, I, along with most of modern science, have no idea how that man survives in skimpy wetsuits and no boots at this time of year - a miracle! Said hi to Steve and Leuda, who were walking around in the rain (!) until after chatting to me. Stopped off to organise the Megabash at Seacourt, and actually found a person to talk to - the real miracle of the day.
Thanks to Juan for sharing my van time, and tea, and the rather nice mini-cakey things he had. Yum. Bye for now, until the next time the harsh unbending mistress that is Hayling calls...

A sunny day, looks like some wind... and that turned out to be true. Of course, not as much as there had been before I arrived, but certainly more than when I left! Just bashed about with occasional stops to warm the hands up, surprisingly cold for the time of year. Good to see Juan, Gen and Steve, not to mention die drei knaben. The sun shone pretty consistently, the wind went up and down, and it wasn't even very dumpy for high tide. A last moment gust, surprisingly caught, propelled me on the 5.5 past Juan and Steve on 6.9 and 6.4 before we stopped for lunch and lack of wind. Definitely time for a new wetsuit Steve - treat yourself!

Drove to Hayling with hope - mixed sun and what looked like wind! Steve and Justin already there, saw Adrian rigging frantically by the IotB. Went with the 5.5 and 104, on the basis that it wasn't as windy as I'd thought. But the wind came up a bit, well powered up, and a good session, with one outstanding gybe, memorable for its smoothness and exit, and a strange wave over on the emerging sandbar. It was a reasonable size, I turned onto it and had a few seconds of excellent DtL! Couldn't find another after that, probably due to the rapidly changing conditions. Stopped when the wind dropped, met B&H on the beach, retired to IotB for coffee with visiting niece. Nice.

Interesting conditions - actually windy at Westward Ho!!. Southerly, so slightly cross-off, swinging to cross. Arrived at 8, ate breakfast, sat around a bit waiting for the water to get a bit closer...
All in all, a good couple of hours of down the line hooning about, without any huge mishap. I really enjoyed myself. I even remembered to bring some lunch... which I was glad to eat! Nice to see Carl and Marion there, I turned out to be the only Ocean Motioner in action at that beach that day. Where were you all? It didn't rain all that much, really... I think I'm turning into Nick McKay, which is no bad thing!

I thought it would be interesting to mix it up a bit on the Bank Holiday weekend, rather than just doing what I've done before... Graham Jones was talking up the possibility of K-Bay being useful on the Saturday, so off I went.
Mixed sun, SW-ish, so blowing straight into the bay, but that of course (of course!!) means it's cross from the launch spot, enabling one to zoom around on the waves inside the bay. A couple of people were doing that, but you can also head upwind and go out to the Bench, apparently a Good Spot. This I did...
Some good swells, mid-tide, and waves building up... I had a really good time on the swell, but the Bench had some proper sailors having a go, so I went over to investigate. Nice. Did the right thing, looking behind for good incoming waves, spotted what looked like a good one... It certainly was! So-n-so jacked up really fast, I tried to stay with it but went over the top big time, big bang, rumbley-tumbley, hanging on to gear for dear life... When it all settled down, my UJ had broken, and the thought of swimming the 1km back wasn't too attractive! However, dear reader, it was my lucky day. The usually utterly useless webbing had held on, and I was able to sail back, albeit rather gingerly, but sail nonetheless. Phew.
Had a bit of a break, a chat to Graham, who'd finally deigned to arrive and barely got wet, then went out for another go, but by this time the wind had dropped a bit, and I was knackered. Maybe I should have brought some lunch, next time eh? Packed up and drove to Devon...

Kimmeridge - heaven even if you have to swim. Wish I could've been there - instead - getting ready for new school year and teaching windsurfing - which I love to do.
