Hayling Island on 19/08/18

Rating:4 star rating
Board:110 litres
Sail:5.9

Was hoping for more wind but mustn?t grumble. Nicely powered for the first two hours then after lunch the wind dropped off. Had another on-off 2 hours and then rather frustratingly the wind picked up the second that I derigged. Pretty flat so mostly a freestyle session. Still trying to get more consistent with upwind 360s in chop; some progress made...

Costa Teguise low tide from beach

Boo Hoo, last day in Costa Teguise.
Wind a little gusty but 5.3m did the job. That said, I should have taken a Freewave rather than Skate. Some big curling waves made for big jumps and landing on a big board was a little scary - it got me thinking back to Robbie Naish in RIP landing 40 ft jumps on his slalom board. Unfortunately I didn't have the same technique to soften the landings so had to suffer the bumps. Likewise I had to back out of a few waves as it was clear that the Skate wasn't the right tool for the job and would have dug its nose at the bottom of the wave - I didn't fancy having to own up to yet more nose damage..
Great session though

Costa Teguise from beach at low tide

Sail:5.6

Another great day in the sun. Wind a bit lighter so took the 5.6 Hero. More waves today although frustratingly the best ones for jumping were in the wind shadow so it was very difficult to built up speed to them although on a big freestyle board I did land a couple of jumps with a clatter.
Frustrating progress with loops - I suspect the answer is higher and harder. Although ironically my biggest wipeout, with resultant damage to the front of the board, was going too steep down a waveface, digging in and being hauled over the front.. I was then given helpful loop advice by someone who then admitted to perforating his ear drum looping yesterday.. so maybe I should take that with a pinch of salt..

Thought i?d missed the wind, went out on a 5m and the wind dropped. However after floating around for 30 min the wind kicked back in and 5m was fine. Even the waves started to appear albeit still pretty small but some reasonable ramps. Good 4 hr session - worth missing lunch for!

So today the wind switched on. I hung on to my 5.6 and big board but could have been on a 5m. The lack of waves meant that everyone was out making the most of the wind - which was great to see and there was plenty of space. However there was some evil wind chop in the flat water in front of the rocks which was a real test of gybing commitment. You had to sheet in hard to force through it. Release the pressure and you generally either exploded or the fin would spin out resulting in that horrible phenomenon where the board stalls and you land on the sail mid gybe. Excellent session and hopefully more tomorrow maybe even with some waves

Old faithful 110 Skate and 5.7m. Perfect for 45mins until the wind dropped and a bit of a slog back in, in next to no wind. But at least I wasn?t as far out as I was on Friday when the same thing happened.

No wind really forecast today but there seemed to be a bit of breeze on the beach so gave it a bash. Had a brief period of planing before the wind completely switched off and then turned dead offshore. I was a long way out at this time and spent the last hour slogging back upwind. Good tacking practice...

Gusty offshore wind but there were some decent sized waves in the middle of the bay. Took a large freestylewave but it was hard work to get planing and then not particularly loose on the wave so at times was a little frustrating although the conditions were definitely a little tricky

Hayling Island on 28/07/18

Rating:4 star rating
Board:84 litres
Sail:4.2

Plenty of wind so an excellent opportunity to 'fire up the Quatro' (I've been waiting to say that for ages). New wave board with three sets of thruster fins to try out. Certainly the set I used first time out were pretty loose. Great on the waves but pretty technical in the chop (although being stacked on a 4.2 might have been a contributory factor).
4.2, on a new waveboard, in a shortie - what more could you ask for? Got some great jumps.
Heading to Lanzarote next week and it will be the first time I have arrived on holiday with blisters already in situ..

Hayling Island on 16/06/18

Rating:3 star rating
Board:95 litres
Sail:5.3

I braved high tide at Hayling and a perforated ear drum to get a sail in. Arrived to find paramedics working on someone in a wetsuit - looked like a dislocated shoulder or collar bone.
Great to see John down too and getting on the water.
The wind was a little light at times, but on the whole my 5.3m was fine. Spent the first half of the session in front of the beach, which was handy as my harness line broke and i had to come in for a replacement. Then headed out to the sandbar for the waves. They weren't epic but i got a few decent jumps in and they weren't very crowded, presumably due to the timing of high tide. Came off the water around 7pm, nice session.
