A great day at Hayling. Sun shining, plenty of wind and the tide just right. Could have changed down but hung on to the 6m for dear life. Strange sailing out on port tack as it was a south-easterly. Thanks to John G for discouraging me from going to Calshot and to Carl and Marion for their company and the tea. Good to catch up with Clair after way too long as well.

Saturday :- had a look at the sea side- seemed pretty windy so opted for the harbour were the OM group were already rigging up. Had only brought a six and smaller as I foolishly believed the forecast. Could have done with bigger as the wind was full of holes. Got planing a good few times in the gusts. A lovely day none the less and good to see old friends, Pete D, Nige Sand John V.

First sail in almost 18 months and what a day to re-start. Arrived at Lepe at 11:30 with sunny skies and and the wind building and no one else out. Remembered how to rig up ! and had a few good blasts including a couple of pretty fair gybes. Came in just as Carl and Marion arrived. It seems they brought the wind with them as it really started to blow. Changed down to a 5.3 but even that was too much as the squalls came through. Good to be out and have the company of Carl, Marion and John G.

First time out for my new custom fit winter suit by Snugg of Cornwall. Highly recommended.

Started the day with a sausage sarney at the Nat. Trust Cafe up the road - a great start to a classic Bramblebush day. Started out on my 99ltr with a 7mtr sail - not the best combo as the wind picked up so changed to a 6. Had a few great blasts but never really got the mix right as the wind was up and down but, hey, who cares - great venue, lovely weather and great company. Ocean Motion at its best.

Managed to get planing twice out on the sea side, out and back in again, and was thinking that the sea breeze was filling in for the Megabash crowds but, alas, 'twas not to be. Still, had a great time catching up with old friends and did, at least get a sail in - second one this year !!

Beat the Bank Holiday crowds for a Friday sail at Avon Beach - the first for many months. Had a couple of good runs and could even remember how to gybe. Came in for a breather and a chat with Marion and got back out just as the wind started to die. So it was your fault Marion ! Nice sunny day plus a bonus to catch up with old friends.

Cross off at Avon made for a wobbly sail out to meet the wind but once out great for blasting if a little over powered at times. A dirty black cloud killed the wind for a while and bent the wind a a bit more westerly which was great except made getting back to shore a nightmare.

But hey, the sun was shining and I was still in a summer suit so who's complaining. Met up with Carl, Marion and Adrian over at Highcliff to review the weekends sailing. Thanks for the tea Adrian.

Arrived at Hayling mid afternoon to sunny skies and 5mtr weather on a falling tide. Had several great runs but around 5 o'clock a rain cloud hung over Southampton and turned off the wind completely. 20 minutes of swimming to keep up wind before it passed over and I could limp in.

Bill and heather turned up as I was leaving - hope you had good evening sail.

Couldn't make the megabash but turned up for the Sunday to find Calshot bathed in sunshine and littered with many faces old and new.

Rigged big and had some good runs on a fickle sea breeze - then the water disappeared. Great to be on a sunny beach with good company. It was a wrench to pack up and head home.

PS don't ask Marion about my dog ears !!!!!

Wednesday afternoon...... enticed down to Avon beach by a mouthwatering forecast and the siren call of Carl of Avon..... " Wind building - going back home to get my kit ". Yes, you guessed - by the time I got there the wind was becoming flukey and I was in and out changing boards all day. Still, I nice day out at the beach even if it did start drizzling as I was packing up.

A nice cup of tea and a Chelsea bun at Carl's rounded off a "Grand Day Out" - more Cheese Grommit?
