Just to let you know that I haven't given up windsurfing.

Went out at Christchurch on 20 on a 104 with a 5.3 when I should have had my wave board, 81, and a 4.7. It wasn't much fun. Next day was hugely better and one of the best days I have had - also at Christchurch. In four hours of planing conditions (5.9) , I covered 33.6 miles, my best to date, and managed my second best time in UK of 32 m p h. As if all of that wasn't enough, at a point near the middle of the harbour I heard engines and looked up. There was the complete Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on its way to the air show at Bournemouth. Wonderful, and all in sunshine while all around the harbour was a ring of darkish cloud with falling rain evident in some places.

Two good hours in planing conditions, too, on 25 at Sandbanks. I'll just have to try to brave the open waters at Avon Beach to sail with Carl (and learn by watching!).

In light winds I sailed for an hour on Patricia's board. I covered only just over 7 miles with a best speed of 23.4mph. Hope to sail on Thursday where the wind is forecast to be stronger. May even manage to sail my own 104 for a change.

Not to be constantly outdone by my friend and near neighbour in Christchurch, Carl, I am writing to add my sail at Calshot yesterday. On Patricia's board, a JP 135, with a 6.9, I had a good sail for a little over an hour. My GPS told me that I had covered over eight miles and had reached 27.6 mph. It was only my third sail this year, despite proximity to the water so I can't hope to emulate Carl! Hope to see you tomorrow at the club's event at Christchurch.
