Lepe & Calshot on 23/07/17

Sail:6.5

An enjoyable sail in the pond at Calshot.

Went for yet more kit demo-ing at Solent Sailboards. Tried out my new(ish) 6.5 sail on a different mast, compared it to an old 7m sail. Hmmmm, dither, dither, dither.

Wind was a bit gusty and not really enough, planing some of the time. Went for run a couple of runs on the sea, better wind but too off-shore for my liking.

A pleasant sail, until the rain came down...

Wavey fun at Hayling.

SE wind, so excellent fun playing in the small waves on the sandbar. A good sail until I ran out of energy.

A small sail and big board - strange combination but it worked well in the very gusty conditions. Great fun sailing with all the usual crew.

Also had a very brief sail on Friday evening, only a few runs across the pond - not enough to get planing but still pleasant. Then Sunday I eneded up going over to mmy favourite shop and demo-ing various combinations of sail/mast, well worth it, but not much time-on-the-water.

A very pleasant afternoon at Hayling. Just caught the 45 minutes of sea breeze. Very light wind but just enough for me

Lee on Solent, Hillhead & Stokes Bay on 02/07/17

Sail:7.1

An excellent sail at Meon Shore.

Some of the Christchurch crew decided to venture out of Dorset, in the strong belief that Hillhead would get an afternonn sea breeze. I didn't believe it myself, but decided it was a good excuse to go down to the beach. Rigged up big kit around 3pm and had a brilliant time. Wind was building and building, came in when I got too overpowered.

Really nice to sail in the Solent again, I'd forgotten how good it could be in summer sea-breeze.

Poole on 25/06/17

Rating:2 star rating
Board:130 litres
Sail:6.5

An intersting day at Bramblebush, started on big kit, and that was fine in the morning, although the wind was a bit up and down. Then out again after lunch to find it had picked up alot! After much faffing, went out on my 100 l board and 5.3 - ok, but even felt a bit overpowered on that. All in all it was a good sail, but not as pleasant as the previous 2 days.

A lovely sail in Poole. Big kit as usual, but that was just right, just gently cruisin across to Brownsea Island.

Christchurch on 23/06/17

Rating:4 star rating

Sail:5.3

An excellent starter for the weekend - a friday sail in Christchurch harbour with the usual suspects. The 5.3 seemed a bit light when we started but the wind filled in nicely. Only stopped because I ran out of water.

Perfect afternoon in Christchurch Harbour.

My FreeStyleWave and 5.8 were just right, wind picked up a notch just as I went out. A perfect harbour sail.

Actually, Avon beach looked truly spectacular, head-high waves and very clean, but I decided it looked a bit too challenging in the light winds, so I scuttled off to the harbour.

Porto Pollo, Sardinia on 30/05/17

Excllent day at Porto Pollo.

Light winds (by Sardinia standards) but ample for my big board and new 6.5. Very nice day
